Working From Home

No one imagined that we would end up in this situation. We have come to believe that we are indestructible and that nothing can’t really affect us. But now, we know that this isn’t true. From experiencing this pandemic we can learn a lot of things and maybe in the future we won’t repeat the same mistakes. But, now let’s be practical, as you all know, given the situation most of us are working from home and, honestly, it can be hard sometimes.  There are many distractions and we have to internalize habits that some of us didn’t have before. Read this article and learn some tips for working from home!

1. Take care of your space

It is crucial to be organized and to have a clear work space. The best option is to dedicate a desk and some peripherals exclusively to work use. The reason is that when you separate and organize things physically, it normally creates a mental separation and classification too. Therefore, you are able to identify certain areas as work spaces, which allows you to be more focussed and work more productively without distractions.

2. Create a Morning Routine

If you don’t have a routine, it is difficult to be as productive as you could. Creating a routine that guides you to work is key. Why? When you are all day at home, it is easy to think “I’ll do it later, I have all day” and this is really dangerous because later can easily end up being never. For example, making a cup of coffee can indicate you’re about to start working, and it mentally helps a lot. A routine can be more powerful than a clock at helping you get started each day.

3. Overcommunicate

Working remotely requires you to overcommunicate. Although you can’t talk face to face with your collegues it is very important to communicate with them. Try notifying your tasks when you finish and make them part of your daily work just by telling them. This doesn’t mean to write a twenty lines essay for every action you take, but just to be proactive and count on your team while you work from home.

4. Get face time

Right now, we don’t really know how long this situation will last. So, the only thing we can do is to adapt to this reality. You can follow our tips and you’ll notice how you become more productive working from home. Another important thing you could take into account is having face time calls with your boss or superior. This can help you establishing clear goals week to week. Also, you will notice how it will create a stronger sense of commitment as you will have a well defined role.

5. Maintain regular hours

Set a schedule and stick to it. Having clear guidelines for when to work and when to rest will help you maintaining work-life balance. If you start going to sleep late every day, it will become really difficult to get up early and be productive during the morning. In the contrary, if you maintain balance and sleep the necessary  hours you will notice how your productivity rises. It is crucial to take this seriously as it really makes a difference in your work performance.

Automatic time-tracking apps, such as RescueTime, are really useful to control your schedule. They can also help you figure out what times of day you’re most productive versus when you slack off. You can use that information to your advantage by reserving your hours of high focus for your most important tasks.
